50 Years Together

Today we partied until everyone dropped! As I sit here and reflect on the day, the overwhelming theme is love.  50 years ago today, two people stood in front of their family and friends and vowed to love, honor, and cherish one another.  Little did they know the journey they would be taken on.

The first ten years were filled with separation, war, the hardship of trying to start a family, finally getting their child, then getting another child 18 months later, to having their third child 20 months after that.  To having their family complete. They were filled with love.

The next 20 years were filed with adventure.  From family vacations across the country, to a trip to Disneyworld, to time spent together, to laughter, to epic fights, to moving to a new house, to games played, to time spent together, to time cherished.  They were filled with  love.

The last 20 years have been filled with children moving away, children moving back, sacrifices so that all of their children could graduate from college, to epic trips to Ukraine on a mission trip, to a dream come true of traveling through Alaska, to cruises, to North Carolina, to all over Ohio.  They were filled with love.

As I looked around the party, there was love.  Love for their brothers and sisters, love for their parent, love for their aunts and uncles, love for their cousins, for friends who are like family, friends from a lifetime together.  But most of all, love for each other.

As everything is settling down, I am thinking about love. I am so glad that 50 years ago, two people stood in a little church and vowed to love one another.  No, it hasn't been perfect, but the legacy they have left behind is amazing.  To see so many people from their past that changed plans, travelled a long way, simply to support and encourage my parents is a greater testament than anything I can say.

So today is a day of remembered young love and seeing the depth of that love that they have for each other as well as all of the people in their world.

I am beyond blessed to have this example in my life.  So, mom and dad, thank you for getting married 50 years ago today.  Thank you for the love that has been in our family because of you two.  Thank you for still loving each other to this day.
